Abstractions of Urban Pigeons — a series of works created in collaboration with urban pigeons in Kyiv. Two canvases — on black and white backgrounds — were placed in an attic inhabited by birds, which directly formed the compositions through their natural activity.

These works function as a direct comparison to another part of the artist’s practice, where the material originates from a pigeon with a disability which can no longer live on the street and lives at home and has a full diet— correspondingly healthy droppings. In this case, the source is urban birds living in complex conditions and often having limited access to adequate nutrition.

Visually, the works demonstrate differences in the structure and color of the material: in contrast to the rich and high-contrast tones characteristic of a healthy domestic bird, muted, earthy tones and unstable textures dominate here. This becomes a direct indicator of the physical condition of urban pigeons and the conditions of their existence.

All works in the series are sealed with a layer of epoxy resin, which isolates the material and eliminates direct contact with it, while emphasizing its visual qualities and transforming it into a stable artistic object.

The series captures the intersection between a biological process and an artistic gesture, raising questions about visibility, care, and responsibility within the urban ecosystem.
