VALERA IN ODESSA WITH BROS
30 / 30 cm
Acrylic, fluorescent acrylic, luminescent acrylic
Like a random image sent through a messenger app: Valera takes a selfie somewhere above the Black Sea, while behind him stretch the Odessa coastline and his flock. Only part of Valera is visible in the painting, as if he accidentally flew into the frame while trying to show his “bros.”
The work continues the imagined biography of Valera — a rescued pigeon who, after being released back into freedom, begins a life of his own, filled with adventures, routes, and new companions. Here, Odessa appears not as a tourist postcard, but as a space of freedom, friendship, and fleeting moments worth sharing.
The painting feels like a found digital memory — a photograph that accidentally became a painting.
The painting is presented in a heavily textured frame, hand-finished with decorative plaster. An integrated ultraviolet light system is built directly into the frame, activating three different types of paint layered throughout the work. Depending on the lighting conditions — daylight, ultraviolet light, or darkness — the painting reveals three separate visual states, transforming the image into a shifting, multi-layered environment rather than a fixed surface.
